Re: Leads of a singleton Ace against a Loner.

After reading half of that I could have told you who wrote it (even if his name wasn't right next to it.) I can't wait to take your 2350....

Re: The G with some Basics.

I wouldn't tell someone I was trying to teach this, but there are times when I would lead a singleton ace. The general rule G suggests is a good one. The problem with the scenarios people seem to cook up on here is we generally don't take into account who we are playing with and against.... which so...

Re: Quickest 2000 Rating

Yeah that's about as close as i've ever come... over 1950 in about 80 games and next thing I knew I had 1850 in 90 games....

Oh and there's a reason I challenged Todd and not Bre... I'm not that dumb

Re: Random Deal Generator

I think one reason complain about the deals on HW is because the skill level on HW is a lot better than your average live player or on yahoo (which is the only other website I've played on.) Good players have a tendency to make your cards look worse... and they tend to make a lot more loners. When I...

Re: What would you do?

I'd lead the 10 of trump because it puts the lead where you want it. If you lead the ten of trump your partner will play the right and if your partner has either red ace or double heart you'll end up with all five. By playing the left and keeping the lead, then you are posed with the dilemma Janet o...

I'd suggest you rethink your lead on the 2nd trick

Re: Las Vegas World Series Euchre 2008

I'd have to agree with all of that's been said... that was a really fun trip. It was great meeting you all and I'll look forward to chatting & playing with you on HW. Special thanks to G of course for making it all happen--that was very generous and appreciated. And thank you to all of those who ext...

Re: The G with some Basics.

Your partner was right...and wrong. A lot of good players mistakenly play like there is no difference between leading the left and ace in this situation--but as your partner pointed out it sends a different message to your partner. Keep in mind it also sends a different message to your opponents. Li...

Re: The G with some Basics.

And what would proving you wrong mean? Someone else writing another long post explaining the logic behind it? Sadly, I agree with Todd or I'd be happy to write that long post. When in doubt play the ace that has the best chance of going through.

Re: The G with some Basics.

Ahh good point, I missed the obvious… having a partner you are compatible with is crucial, and this usually takes more time than when you play 3 random games w/people. Stick with partners you are comfortable with As for The Novice’s wondering where the top rated players are…. Todd is the highest rat...

Re: The G with some Basics.

There goes Todd and his ego again tryin to show off--or at least make it sound like he's better than he is :D Players trying to learn need to crawl before they walk--and shouldn't think too much about ordering your opponent with JK off Ace or crossing with Q10 off Ace. If you are still trying to get...

Re: The G with some Basics.

Clubs turned down and you have: A109 spades and 10 club, 9 hearts… definitely call it. I’m going to attempt a fairly detailed example of a rather bad scenario, but one which you can still make if you play correctly. I hope its understandable… Start by leading a one of the low trump (of course this C...

Re: Hi everyone

Maktub is right ... you are very good writer.

Start by calling more often... at first you will probably end up losing more pts than you gain but if you pay close attention to what is going wrong, you will begin to figure out how to play and read cards much better.
