Re: How Bad Play gets Rewarded
I'm not really sure what was rewarded here and what we're supposed to take from this, clearly all 4 players are novices and every player at the table played this hand very poorly -- whats the point of this example and what are we supposed to be looking at specifically? The funny thing is, the player...

Re: Srategic Modeling
I think you could make more sense in your posts if you included some specific examples with real hands. A very famous bridge theorist once said "Your theories won't be respected unless you can tie them down to real hands and examples". Otherwise, your ideas just seem kind of airy and generalized. It...

Re: Fixed Deals
How does this help answer my question about how deals are generated? This appears to be something about ratings? Very confused.
This was more helpful to my question, lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_mKY2CQ9Kk

Fixed Deals
It seems like people have been complaining about "fixed deals" on HW for some number of years now. Many of the players that used to play on Yahoo! recently switched to HW and are saying the same. Normally I just brush this side as very few people understand how random deals and distributions work. T...

Re: Team Bidder!
Reread your very first statement on this thread. That is the point I strongly disagree with. For the reasons I stated. The beauty of partnership trick taking games (imo) is the complexity of the card play and the challenge to master it, that is where the real skill lies. Most neglect this aspect of ...

Re: Team Bidder!
Disagree with this very strongly. I can teach someone to bid well in less than a few hours. Of course they'll improve over time and with experience, but it's a very easy skill to learn. Play of the hand is by far the more complex part of any partnership card game and takes many many years to become ...

Re: Spades Signals/Conventions
"Letting your opponents know your methods destroys any advantage to be had by having such signalling methods." You'd be surprised how untrue this statement is, if it were true Bridge players would have stopped using signaling eons ago. However, normally the signal we give to partner is more importan...

Re: Signaling in Spades
I think signaling should be allowed and also announced. I know there is no governing body, but this is just a matter of ethics imo. I always state at the beginning what our carding and signaling is, and if the opps want full explanation I will provide it. The thing is, most spades players have no id...

Re: Looking for pards willing to read Master Spades
My recommendation: If you're this advanced and into card theory, you should put in the time and learn/play bridge :). Much better game, trust me. It's an investment of your time, but the reward is playing the best card game ever devised, imo. You're wasting your time with spades, which is what I did...

Re: What would you lead in this case?
Ok, well I would have played low to the 7H lead on trick 5. However, since you took with the Q, I definitely would not cash in the ace like you did. But since you did, I think a trump lead is auto. Partner has bid 4 and only shown up with 1 trick so far. Hopefully he has some spade length for that b...

Re: What would you lead in this case?
Let me rewrite this out (sorry, have to see it this way reading so much on card theory) 542 85 -- Q9 (traditional SHDC notation) Partner = 1/4 You 2/2 How are there 4 hearts left? Wasn't 2 rounds played? Should be 3 hearts remaining outside our hand. Can you please give us the play by play? It's ver...

What is your "Spades Personality"?
This is a descriptor which I call “spades personality”; basically, a string of letters which describe a spades player's self-rating along various axes, with the goal of providing a rough snapshot of that player's spades “philosophy” (it does NOT include a self-assessment of skill level). The idea is...
