Re: What Did I Do Wrong?
Yes, I took the first three leads with Diams. My pard was clear with his rants, he felt I should have played clubs if I had any. He was upset I stayed with hearts on the next lead and didn't switch to clubs. Yes, nil, it was a typo. I don't sit at games where bnil is an option, unless I've waited a ...

Re: What Did I Do Wrong?
The second situation was fairly late in the game. The score was about 400 (them) to 300 give or take bags. I considered opening with the 2. I thought with a 9 total the best opening lead was the 2, with my LHO being in the lead and really needing to play more conservatively than I did. But, based on...

What Did I Do Wrong?
The game situation isn't important, I'll add as much as I need to help you see what was going on. Game is early and fairly close. My pard bids Nil. I had: Diams expended. Hearts A,8,7 Clubs J,8,6 Spades not broken. It's my lead. I led the A hearts then the 8 of hearts, my pard went set. He starts ye...

More Endgame Drama...
I played a game with a pick up partner last night. I didn't think to keep the specific score and hands for this post, but I really don't need to be specific to make my point. During the game my partner asked several questions about why I did this or that. I have to admit that there may have been dif...

Re: Morals and Ethics
Growing up, when we used to play Spades with real cards, we had an individual who would intentionally reneg from time to time. We knew it, and we watched for it. Because of this, we consulted the Hoyle rule book to see what the proper course of action was when a reneg was discovered. So, I grew up u...

Re: First hand play question
No, it makes sense. I don't need to see any more examples. I supposed it was something where you had to know your partner and how they play. But, also, I see where the situations you and Dustin presented would give you an opportunity to take more tricks. I guess my comments are based on pick-up part...

Re: First hand play question
Na, I didn't take it that way. Yes, whether or not the King is the right play is a valid question. However, it's not the question here. I think here's where knowing your pard means taking less time thinking about what he "might" have done, and being familiar with why he would play a K here. It's imp...

Re: First hand play question
The OPer brought up a few basic points: 1) It's a setting hand (11 bid or more). 2) Your pard opens a hand with a K, or plays a K in 2nd position. 3) He holds A,x,x in that suit. He also mentioned that he would assume his pard held the Q. Many of you have also brought up the other option that your p...

Re: Question on game points
and that there is nothing that an average player could do to become an above or even far above average player. As far as here and now, and as far as ratings are concerned. But, one can always study and learn more about Spades, progressing under the assumption they don't know all there is to know ab...

Re: Changes that I think will help
3. Revise what timeout should be. Timeout should be changed to “Timer On” instead. Every table should be set so that you can not see your cards until it’s your turn to bid. As the host you have the option to have the “Timer On” or “Timer Off”. Having “Timer On” means that you have a limited amount ...

Well, I guess I never count even partial tricks on the 3rd round of any side suit. And, it's too easy for the opps to win the first 2 rounds of the suit, since you force your partner to play his highest card in the suit if West ducks (which is likely). The other thing I don't like is you give away w...

By "shot in the dark", I was actually referring to any opening lead. Whatever lead we choose to make, is actually a "shot in the dark" as we have almost no information about partner's or the opponents' holdings yet other than the bids made. I feel this strengthens the position of leading from suits...
