Regarding Subbing

There is one aspect of subbing that is a little annoying, and maybe, Jonas, you could find a way to address it at some point. When a sub is needed, the game will show on the available games list, but it will be indicated as "full". Unfortunately, if someone quits the game before it is an official ga...

Re: more then one nic

Although I am not personally familiar with the new version, based upon what I have read in here It does seem to me that the limit of one nic per account does represent a problem for players who are new to HW, and especially for those who are new to Spades. It would be easy for someone to lose some o...

Reporting Spam

Jonas. was there not at one time a method for reporting posts?

Maybe it is still here and I am just missing it.

Re: Jonas, we need a concede button

It happens a lot in my experience. Yes, I was envisioning a vote such that if any pair of losing players both voted to concede, the game would end at that point. I guess that it could somehow be manipulated, but it would be pretty tough I think. As long as the vote could only be activated if at leas...

Jonas, we need a concede button

For the umpteenth time today, we played a game where we wound up way ahead after a few hands, one op quit, and after a sub came the original op didn't want to continue either, but did not want to add a quit to his record. He spent about the next 6 hands bidding nil and setting himself in hopes of ge...

Re: Subs for Games

Although fairly uncommon, sometimes one winds up subbing in a game where his or her pard was winning when the sub was needed. It would not really be appropriate to get the rating points in a case like that.

Re: What do you play here?

The suggestion for underbidding is that East might stretch his bid and take his team to a 7 bid that they cannot make. Yup, it is a consideration, but I didn't feel like gambling on it. As it turned out, East had the high hearts as I had guessed, and he would have gotten not only the Jack, but the K...

Re: What do you play here?

You get the prize and the win Q. The only reason to not cut here is if we think that pard can win 7 tricks. As you said, the 5 bid screams "NOOO". Also, unless pard is givng wrong signals, she does not have the Heart Queen or King or she would have covered with one of them on trick 1 (probably shoul...

What do you play here?

Just finished this game sitting South. Score Opps 436 Us 288 (pard bid Nil on hand 1 with 3 clubs to the King.. didn't work so well) You are bidding first with the following hand: Clubs 2 3 5 6 7 9 Diamonds 2 7 10 Hearts 9 Spades 5 9 K Let's hope that you bid Nil here (if Pard does not have a great ...

Re: Card Counting

Card counting certainly is NOT cheating. How one goes about it, however, can be. If a player is writing down cards, marking them off on a sheet, or using any device other than his or her brain for the task that IS cheating. Similarly, there were and maybe still are programs that could/can be linked ...

Card Counting

Something happened last night that made me think of putting up this post. People easily get intimidated regarding what is normally called card counting. There really are two aspects of remembering cards, though. One is card counting and the other I will call card tracking. Let's call card tracking r...

Re: NEW DECKS

That is actually a very good thing.

Adversity builds creativity, thinking outside of the box, and skill.

If it makes you feel any better, I played 3 games today that I think we could not have won no matter what we did.

Re: NEW DECKS

It's like a slot machine. They are never due, more likely, or less likely to pay off on any given pull. I love watching people at the casinos who get upset when they leave a machine and then someone else wins on it, and then they say that they would have won had they stayed on it.... well they would...

Re: Card Food For Thought

Hard to imagine somebody going into a tourney to throw a game, but I guess that it takes all kinds. Must be the big bucks for winning.
