Backgammon Controls

Post by Jonas » Thu Nov 16, 2006 7:24 pm

okay, just wanted to seperate this topic out. Please don't discuss anything but game controls.

So currently the controls for Backgammon are

Right mouse click: Moves the Right Die if possible, else uses the left die.
Left Mouse click: Picks up a checker to drag
Double Mouse click: Moves the Left Die

I want to make sure we still have a way to drag the checker intutively. So a single left click to pick up an checker is what folks that aren't familery with "how they do it at Backgammon super planet does it" will be okay :)

Now we might allow for an alternative controls you can set that would make a single left click do someting right away. but probably won't be the default.

Just an FYI, there is no right click button on a mac unless you buy a separate mouse. Anyone on a laptop without connecting a mouse, can't play without knowing all the commands.

Yeah, on the mac its common place to use a Command Click to replace that fuctionatily.

So I think it's just Command+Click to do that. Of course a person can just pick up and move the piece, its not unplayable.

Correction, it's ctrl + click on Mac to simulate PC's right click without purchasing a special mouse. In any case it's a nuisance not only to the Mac user, but to the PC players who are constantly telling us to play "FASTER PLZ!"

Here's a solution which requires no re-programming:
Silver Creek Entertainment could send all us Mac players a 2 button mouse free of charge. :D
