Most difficult hand to draw

Post by Sailing_Away » Sat Feb 22, 2014 8:09 pm

After playing this game a while, it seems the flush draw is the hardest to get. Being dealt 4 cards the same suit, you'd think with 25% odds that you could get your suit you'd see a flush 1 in 4 times trying.

Ok, technically the odds aren't 1 in 4 because 4 of the 13 cards from that suit are already gone so the odds are actually 9 in 48 or 18.75%. If you already have a made pair jacks or higher, perhaps its not so wise to gamble that on a flush draw but to take the sure points and hope for 2 pair, 3 of a kind, full house or 4 of a kind.

If you have a pair below jacks, is it still mathematically wise to keep the pair and hope for those other outcomes even with no sure points rather than go for the flush draw?

Ironically, open-ended straights (a four-in-a-row which can become a straight on either the lower or upper end) seem much easier to make even though the odds are 8 in 48 of making or 16.67%.

I'm curious to know if that's other's people's perception, or if there's another hand that's rougher than it should be to draw for you.
