who's on first!

Post by MELOVEULONGTIME2 » Wed Jan 10, 2007 2:14 am

I was in a game with a very rude player who used racial slurs, I called the Guide GrandmaS to the table from the lobby. I was told "if a guide does not witness the infraction it is ok to post what was said to the guide" This information came from a Guide.
When she arrived I posted the ugly words (cut and pasted) so she could clearly see what this person said. GrandmaS silenced me! mean while I sat there thinking what the heck is going on??? .
Grandma silenced me and allowed the person to go a rant for a few mins. The rude person went on to say "GrandmaS loves her so she doesn't care" hummmm maybe that is why she was allowed to contiunue with using ugly words while I sat there with duct tape. Please keep in mind at no time did I say one thing. Nor, did i post the racial slur in the open lobby, So I called for help because it was my understanding that Hardwood has ZERO tolerance for racist behavior I would so. And, I get the tape.
In all fairness she did indeed silence the rude person but, she got me first.

I see this as just another notch in the belt of unfair treatment by the Guides flexing the almighty power; and allowing buddies to do as they like yet again!
I would hope GrandmaS would tell me "she is sorry" this person atempted to use the N word I found that most offensive and did what I thought was the correct action and call for help.

maybe one of you could tell me what to do next time,

I agree with you and the guide.. Racism and racialism have no business anywhere. and as Forrest said.. "that's all I have to say about that"

I'm terribly confused here though (and i found this so very ironic) your hw forum name is, in itself, a sort of racial "slur" of its own. Is it not?

actually i think i will add to that.

To stick up for the guide here, but not to speak for her, instead to explain why I assume the events happened were because they have posted IM addys in their profiles, on the forum, and in lobbies. It isnt wise to paste the nasty stuff that was said. It doesnt need to be posted in lobbies/games again. It was vile enough the first time.

However, next time contact them via IM and paste it (might ask if its ok first, some have kids watching). It didnt belong in the HW chat by the other person, and it definetly didnt warrant a repost in the HW chat by you. They cannot take your word for it and take immediate action anyway, even if you paste it. All they can do is stay and watch, take action on what they DO see, file a report on the game for admin to view it and leave it in their hands. You probably werent aware of this, that's a bummer, and sorry you learned the hard way (we all have lol). Even though there isnt much they can do without having seen it themselves, having pasted it into an IM wouldnt have gotten you a silence or warning in HW :)

A report filed to HW by you would have been best (especially along with the guides report which im sure was filed). BUT now there will be a report filed with them saying it and YOU saying it in there as well, as they will read the whole game's chat..

Just a thought here...and Truth be known, It's better that the guide reprimanded your actions even if it were just a pasting of anothers' chat, maybe (i would think) HW admin will be lenient on you.

I agree with HW's zero tolerance

I understand why you received a silence (see my novel above)

Hexa,

As I stated before" I was told by a GUIDE if they don't witness the infraction to CUT AND PASTE SAID INFRACTION AS THEY CAN ACT ON IT" doing what I was advised to do with no fore thought to being punished.

Also I did not post it in an open lobby instead called the guide to the room and showed her what was siad....clearly you see nothing wrong with what was done to me (the innocent party here) and you are defending the Guides actions. So the bigger issue I see is someone being allowed to continue using vile words for what seemed liked forever. While the person asking for help is punished...hummm somehow you did not address that????
Thank you for your post anyone reading this other then a GB=Guide Buddy will see the unjust actions for what they are!

Ok normally, I would remove this whole thing as it is against the rules of the discussion board to post a guides or players name when posting......... Seeings as it is about me what I am gonna do is explain and maybe you and others will learn from it. (should admin decide to hold to the rules and remove it I will certainly understand :) )

COPY AND PASTE at a game table, lobby or anywhere else can not be used for a guide to take action against the origional player saying it, for several reasons, but one being it can easily be altered, copy and pasting something offensive at the tables or in the lobbys will get you the same punishment in most cases as the origional person who said it, I silenced you for pasting the vile things that person (supposidly) had said, guides can not check chat that happened before the entered the table.

I was letting the player go on for a bit to see if they would say something that I could SEE myself to silence them and get them stopped until admin could get to them. As it was they did get a silence, racial slurs get 720 min silences (normally, in the case of your copy and paste I gave you a 60) and when admin gets it and reviews the chat if the person really did say a racial slur they will be banned. ADMIN can review the entire chat of the game and all that were there.

When I filed my report I asked that the person you were reporting to me abouts chat be checked and appropriate action be taken, I also reported that I gave you 60 for the copy and paste.

As Hexa said for anyone to have to see that ONCE was more then enough, no one at that table needed to see it twice. And as I said I couldn't take your copy and paste as proof it happened.

I have never asked for copy and paste in a room or lobby IT IS against the rules. You can copy and paste to my IM or to a PM to me or to an Email to me, it will be used to help admin know what they are looking for and only I will see it. I do have two young sons, but they are not around my computer when I am reading my mail or the discussion board (I help keep the boards clean of spam and some of it they could get way more of an education then I want them too). SO for me at least you can do that. BUT again it won't be taken as fact only as a tool to help admin find the offensive chat if it was there. In a case like this

IT is far better to call a guide to over see the rest of the game, say the player was making racial slurs *(this is suffecint information for the guide) and file a report before leaving the table so Admin can look up the chat.

I hope this better explains the situation to you and you will better understand why you recived the silence.

One last thing IF a guide did tell you to copy and paste to them and that they could take it as proof, Please email support@silvercrk.com and tell them who the guide was and when this happened. It is against the rules and will get you in trouble.

Hex....I understand why you understand and in terms of lessons learned.

NEVER ONCE WAS I INSTRUCTED TO PM A GUIDE. Heck I wouldn't even know how ...unlike I have no guides on my IM's

Instead i was told to cut and paste infraction. I did that and well we see what happened. It's amazing to me how quick you are to defend her but, I do understand the good ole boys club is always in force. Circle the wagon and all! this is laughable

To PM a guide look at the bottom of my post and you will see a little button that says PM, click it and you will be able to send me a private message, my IM's are also listed there on the buttons and you can email me from the board as well.

Most guides including me have these features there for your use :)

I never assumed it was done in a lobby

You stated "You called her to the game room from the lobby", I did, however, assume this was with players still in it.. not a private room such as those in MM ..

This is exactly my point above.. you didnt paste the chat in a private setting.

I think the guide who may have told you " if they don't witness the infraction to CUT AND PASTE SAID INFRACTION AS THEY CAN ACT ON IT"
meant in a PRIVATE setting such as MM, a game set to chat in private in, or IMs.

Buddy? lol I like GrandmaS alot, I have a lot of respect for her, she's an awesome person! but you are a silly person if you think she hasnt or wouldnt silence me for doing the same.
 I have posted disagreeances with guides on actions when I have disagreed. Im going to guess you havent read to many forum threads

But in this case, lol You were in the wrong, and i happen to disagree with you.

GrandmaS

I did as I was told...and you did what you felt was correct or by the rules? that in my opinion seem to very and sway from situation to situation and person to person depending on who is being dealt with. The person said"you loved her " so it would appear she is Buddy and the fact that we had to be subjected to her ugliness for a longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg time would give that theroy weight. Would it not have been better to warn me before you shut me down since ummm I was the person who CALLED for help in the first place. Take the post down if you need too I really don't care I just want others to see what can happen when you call a guide for help and it may be against a friend of thiers. You can find yourself getting slammed. Next time it happens racial slurs and all I'll be sure to umm do nothing since asking for help can be hazardous to your Harwood Life.

I did file a report and I hope Jason will reply. about it all !

also Grandma.
The person who told me to cut and paste is no longer a guide I don't think they are I haven't seen them around....if i see the name I think I will remember who it was.

Thank you for taking the time to explain to me why the injured party got the blackeye. And I am sure when Jason reviews the text from that game he will see I DID NOTHING WRONG......I said nothing wrong. Just tried to make you aware of what was going on at the table.

Hey, grandmaS, would you come to our table please?

Hi, and thanks for coming. I wanted to show you all this stuff that MELOVEULONGTIME2 said... here look:
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

grandmaS silences MELOVEULONGTIME2 for what I said they said at the table (of course you really didn't say any of it).

Isn't it obvious why they can't use anything you cut and paste as means to take action?

Also, for the same reason, they have to assume anything posted after your name was you. Otherwise they would have to let you post anything you want as long as you said you copied and pasted it.

Just consider it a lesson learned and move on.
