New fonts for decks?

Post by Spooky » Thu Mar 18, 2004 4:56 pm

How in the world do you make new fonts for decks in the HWS III Deck editor? I have made sure my image is greyscale, and has spaces between each number, as well as having black background and white text. the help says nothing of a required file format, of which i have tried bmp, jpg and gif. Can anyone give me exact instruction, or at least a hint to what i am doing wrong?

Spooky, you need to make sure your image is greyscale. you should beable to use a BMP, or better yet PNG.

The characters need to be in the same order.

And I thinkg you need at 2 Pixels of absolute black going from top to bottom inbetween each chracter and at the begining and ends. And I mean Black as in (0,0,0) BLACK. ;) 100% black.

The reason why is that the game is searching for those absolute black strips to know if the letter has started or ended yet.

Try that and let me know :)

there is HELP in the editor about it.... go to the area where you can replace the fonts, then click the "help" under the ? icon there.

yep, I just did one.

The 1st time through I goofed and thought I did the black lines, but didn't. So double triple check those black lines are there.

well, not sure what you mean by seperate. However you need to make sure they are absolutely black and go all the way from the top to the bottom between each character.

I made my image file in the format png the Deck creator recognizes my file, but the font doesn't change. is another thing necessary to do the font in all the sizes 14, 18, 24 and 32? if Deck creator recognizes my image as been valid file why my font is so small??? I am using 18 any font can be used? :?: :?: :?: :?:

did you make sure to remove the other default fonts.?

I think there is a point that we still use our own built in font if the cards are really small. I think the reason for that, is that at some point you are getting so small that there really isn't much room for style, and its more about clarity.

So idealy, I think you would want to make a few sizes so the game can pick them.

Remember if you just scale down an image, that the chracters have the black line serpateing them still.

okay, looks like whats happening, is that the deck editor thinks the letters are really tall.

So crop the image so that is only got a couple lines of black all the way around the font.
