Thank you Silvercreek Entertainment in providing a game site that is a lot of fun and where you can meet a lot of wonderful people.

Hi all,

If you are an admirer of the color message binds or large foom binds that players use or wondering about other features in Hardwood.....wonder no more. Here is a summarization on how to send color messages with smileys and large fooms with the use of binds which eliminates a lot of typing.

Also, I highlited many of the other features in Hardwood.

With thanks to Silver Creek Entertainment and Hardwood, I was able to use the fooms and resources on site and made over 100 foom bind which I posted at the bottom of this page.

It is my hope that in addition to meeting wonderful people, you may also experience all the fun features available at Hardwood.


Binds allow you to send foom combinations or a message by entering a shorthand code which you have designated to that code.


Keep in mind the sender of the foom is positon 0 then goes clockwise
The player opposite sender is position 2, the other players are 1 and 3

In a three handed game there is ONLY position 0, 1, 3.

Note: In a game, foom text commands can be seen by holding your mouse cursor over one of the the foom symbol squares
which appear after clicking on any one of the players' avatar in the game.

To illustrate different ways a foom can be sent by using the foom text command,
type and enter or copy, paste and enter each one of the following ...

/luck "players nic"
/luck 1
/luck all

For a larger foom, increase the players position number in the command

/luck 1,1,1,1,1

To send large luck fooms to the other 2 players or yourself just enter their position number,

/luck 2,2,2,2,2

/luck 3,3,3,3,3

/luck 0,0,0,0,0

The more times a number is reapeated, the larger the foom

Repeat above for all other fooms and players except the /joy and /nojoy fooms which can only be directed to the sender of the foom.

Because the /joy and /nojoy fooms can only be sent to the sender, they are the only fooms which do not require the player number designation.
They are the only fooms that can't be sent to the other players

A foom can be sent to different players simutaneously,

/luck 1,3
/luck 0,1,2,3

You can cause fooms to have different effects,

/luck 1,3,3,3,3,3,1
/luck 1,3,1,3,1,3,1,3

By using the && sign, multiple fooms also can be sent simutaneously,

/luck 0,2 &&/kiss 1,3
/luck 1,2,3 &&/kiss 1,2,3
/luck 1 &&/pay 3 &&/joy 0
/luck 1,3 &&/pay 0 && /rainbow 0,1
/luck 1,3 && /pay 0 && /rainbow 2
/kiss 1 &&/zap 2 &&/star 3 &&/nojoy 0


Binds are a code you enter to send a foom which you designated to that code.

i.e., to designate a bind for /luck 1 type and enter in the chat box area or copy paste and enter the following ... /bind _____=/luck 1
replacing ____ with a bind code you want to designate for that foom.

Make sure the bind code you designate does not duplicate any one of the foom text commands
seen by holding your mouse cursor over one of the the foom symbol squares which appear
after clicking on any one of the players' avatar in the game.

If entered correctly, you will see your designated code in color in the chat box preceded by a /.

Now type a / then, with no space, type your designated bind code, then press enter to send a luck foom to player 1

To send multiple fooms repeatedly without a break, type your designated bind code, highlite then copy it (control c)
then paste it (control v) and enter it.
before foom ends paste and enter your code again, then paste and enter your code again etc ...


By using the && sign, in addition to binding foom text commands together as illustrated above,
bind codes (text or foom) can also be bound together.

For example, I made a bind,

/bind lk1=/luck 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1

An even larger luck foom can be sent to player 1 by binding multiple lk1 bind codes together.

If you made a lk1 bind as I just illustrated,

Type and enter or copy, paste and enter the following,

/lk1 &&/lk1

/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1

/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1

/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1

Note: Be careful though of not making your foom too large.
Very large fooms may cause a memory overload message, which is temporary, or you might get booted from the game.
It may also cause a memory overload on other players older computers.

To make a new bind code which will sends that foom,
repeat the steps as for any other bind but use a different bind code.

/bind ____=/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1

You may want to take a step further.

Let's say you designated xlk1 for above bind,

/bind xlk1=/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1 &&/lk1

You then can make yet another new bind using your new xlk1 bind code,

/bind ____=/xlk1 && and so on ....

Binding fooms allows a lot of creativity.

Instead of making a bind to send the following foom combination,

/luck 1 &&/sstar 2 &&/srainbow 3 &&/pay 0

If you made a large luck bind you can use the designated code for that bind and change the effect of the foom above.

for example,

/bind ____=/lk1 &&/sstar 2 &&/srainbow 3 &&/pay 0

or using xlk1 I illustrated above,

/bind ____=/xlk1 &&/sstar 2 &&/srainbow 3 &&/pay 0

Again, replacing ____ with a different bind code you want to designate for this new foom.

These binds will send a large luck foom to player 1 but the other fooms to the other players remain the same.

Foom binds can be bound with text binds.

For example,

/bind chp=/sstar 2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2 && :stars Congrats partner :stars

Let your imagination go wild as you can see I did with the binds I made ... listed below


The ChatAlias file is located in the Hardwood folder and is where all binds are stored.
From this file, you will be able to edit, add or delete bind messages or fooms.

To initiate a chatalias file ...

First ... enter a bind from the game site using /bind command, examples above.
Second ... make sure game is shut down completely or else game won't save any changes made to the chatalias file.
Third ... search for file chatalias

If you see the file, click on file to open it.

If Windows cannot open file left click on the file, then point to "open with", then select notepad

If for some reason you can't find the ChatAlias DNA file or open it, then you will need to enter binds individually in the game itself using the /bind command as described above.

When entering or editing binds directly from the chatalias file, /bind is not needed as descibed above, but you will need to enter a semi-colon at the end of the bind which signifies the end of that bind ... i.e. lk1=/luck 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1;

Note: Make a chatalias back up file, preferably on a writeable cd, in case you might lose your main chatalias file

Below are a large variety of foom binds that you can copy and paste into your ChatAlias DNA file.

Note: all the binds below need to be copied and pasted into your chatalias file or inserted individually within the game
for all the binds to work.

To copy...

hold down your "index finger" mouse button and drag over (highlight) the text you want to copy.

to copy the text, hold down the ctrl key and then the c key simutaneously

To paste...

Click mouse where text is to start (at left margin right below the binds in file already).
Hold down the ctrl key and then the v key simutaneously.

to extend a foom, reenter one of the large foom binds 5 or more times back to back.

i.e. type ....
then enter, type /csst then enter, type /csst then enter etc.... this keeps the foom going

What I like to do is copy /csst then all I have to do is press (control and letter V) to paste then enter, paste and enter, paste and enter etc....


To delete a bind just type and enter,

/unbind ______

replace ______ with just the bind code of the bind you want to delete.

Do not use the / next to the bind code
Keep the / next to unbind


Below are many of the other features in Hardwood ...


To find a player if he or she is online in another room at Hardwood, type and enter

/find _______

Replace _______ with player's nic


To get a complete list of avatars type and enter /chars in chat field

To toggle between avatars, just type and enter /(name of avatar) in chat field

i.e. /smoot or /amazon


To get a complete list of backgrounds type and enter /backs in chat field

To toggle between backgrounds, just type and enter /(name of background) in chat field

i.e. /moon or /water


To toggle between the four saved versions of each avatar

type and enter either /c1 or /c2 or /c3 or /c4 in chat field

To edit each version, left click on yourself
then click edit profile, then on the character tab
Then choose which number version (1-4) you would like to edit


You can have pixi dust come from your pointer

Close the chat box by clicking on "chat" on the right side of the chat box
Click on "menu" (upper left corner of playing area) to see a drop down menu
While menu is in drop down mode, hold down the ctrl and P keys
Repeat the above to shut pixi dust off


make the playing table black

Just type and enter the following
Repeat to shut blackout mode off


To fade you character, type and enter the following....
/ghost in the chat field
To fade it more add a number 1-5
i.e. /ghost 3
To fade your background type and enter the following....
/ghostback in the chat field
To fade it more add a number 1-5
i.e. /ghostback 3


To make characters dissapear, click on table and then press the backspace key


to find another player type and enter
/find (player's nic)
i.e. /find mpjw


You can view every play and conversation that took place in a game.

Go to "replay game" in "options", then left click on game # and select notepad.

To replay the game...when signing in, click "options" instead on "play spades online" then click on "replay game"


Type and enter the following....
/me asks how are you?
the message ... "(your nic) asks how are you?" ... will appear in upper left corner of screen


To send a color message left click on the blinking cursor in the game
then point to "color", then click on the color you want your message to be.

To add a smiley or stars to your message, left click on the blinking cursor then point to "emote", then click on the smiley you want in your message

There are numerous bind messages already programmed in Hardwood.

To access these codes just type /binds (codes only) or /showbinds (codes with designated message) in the chat box when in a game or lobby.

To send the message assigned to each bind code, type first a / and then, without a space, any one of the bind codes,
then press enter to send the message designated to the code.


To make a bind, type and enter or copy paste and enter the following replacing ____ with a bind code you want to designate to your message.
Make sure there is one space between /bind and your bind code, and there is no space around the = sign.

Also make sure you do not duplicate the bind codes already stored in Hardwood on the bind list which appeared after entering /bind as above.

Make sure there is no space to the left of /bind

/bind ____="your message"

If entered correctly, you will see your designated code in color in the chat box preceded by a /.

Now type a / then, with no space, type your code, then press enter to send your message.


Type and enter the following,
You will see a color bind code chart

You can have your bind message in color by inserting the designated bind color code found in the chart


Type and enter the following,
You will see a smiley code chart.

You can add a smiley or stars to your bind message by inserting the designated bind code found in the chart

Here is a sample bind

To bind a "how is everyone" message in red outlined in blue with smileys and stars, type and enter or copy, paste and enter the following,

/bind how=:) :stars ~[cred]~[jblue]how is everyone? :stars :)

Note: When you type the ] after red, your text will dissapear.
Continue typing and the text it will be in red.

Note: When you type the ] after blue, your text will dissapear.
Continue typing and the text it will be in red outlined in blue.

If entered correctly, you will see a colored /how in the chat box followed by the message.

Now type and enter the following,


this sends your "how is everyone" message

I have been with Hardwood When there was just solitaire :lol: and hearts :oops: in 1996 then they added Spades :P and has really grown I have not played as much because I am busy but I am so happpy that others have had the time to donate their bindings and are so willing to share this :P has made Hardwood the Top site for playing and having some fun also. You Peeps are great I have to thank all that have made this possible for all us that are either too busy working or just plain lazy( kidding on the lazy) Again you :arrow: Peeps made the binding info easy to read and work I do have a couple of problems but I need one of you great binders to email me or IM me for some help Please I amy be reached at:
